Instructors| Speaker | Biography | | Marty Allen | Instructor | | Marty Allen is an avid nature photographer and native Arkansan who shares his love of photography with his wife Gina. Marty began learning about photography in a serious way with a Beginning Photography class and a borrowed Minolta SLR in college…back in the “darkroom days”. Marty comes from a family with a long history of hunting, fishing and farming. The outdoors; the animals, the plants, the weather and the changing seasons; have always been a vital part of each day. A desire by friends and family led Marty to create a website called “Images Outside” to post his and Gina’s pictures.
Marty served the past two years as the Arkansas Outdoor Photographers Club (AOPC) president and is currently a board member. The AOPC is around 150 members strong and meets every month in Little Rock, AR. Marty’s photos have been featured on the website for Garvin Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, AR and in the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission Arkansas Wildlife magazine and calendar. His photos have also been used in ads and website by Western Pleasure Guest Ranch in Northern Idaho and he has won awards from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Capture Arkansas project, the Little Rock Zoo, the Little Rock Parks and Recreation department, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Bedford Camera over the past several years. Marty volunteers his photography services to the Church at Rock Creek, the Miracle League and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

| | Jack Allred | Instructor | | Jack Allred, first picked up a camera at age 13, when his dad gave him his twin lens reflex. Following college, he switched to 35mm and began working in portraiture. Necessity later forced him to pursue a series of non-photographic careers, including music, graphic design, web design, and retail management, but he took his cameras with him as he traveled through much of the country. In recent years, his primary interest has focused on architectural photography. While he continues a career in retail operations, he is building his project and client list with the goal of returning to photography as his full-time career. He enjoys a CTM rating from Toastmasters International, is a Dale Carnegie graduate, and has served through seven more DC training sessions as a graduate assistant. Jack serves on the Board of Directors of the Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas.

| | Cheryl Barton | Instructor | | I’m intrigued by both natural and man-made objects that populate my vision. Images capture my attention, then draw me in. It’s a singular moment in time that’s committed to still life in a composition that I create through the camera’s lens. Shortly after moving to Northwest Arkansas in 2001, I became part of a graphic design team for a local business, where they unitized my photography skills making me the in-house photographer for all of their commercial needs. I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and served on the board for two years with Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas (PSNWA). I am also an active member of the NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals). My landscape and commercial photographs have been published in local and regional magazines, newsletters, calendars and product packaging.

| Mark Torrance, is a professional commercial photographer currently employed at BW Studios in Tulsa, OK and has worked with owner Bill Welch for over 15 years. Our shooting schedule is diverse which I enjoy because we are always being challenged. Our assignments include food, jewelry, portraits, products, location and still life just to name a few. Our subject matter could be pizza one day, a portrait of a CEO the next, something as small as the tip of a dental tool or as large as a commercial airliner. Each has different needs to solve the photographic problem.

| | Jerry Ward | Instructor | | After graduating LSU, Jerry went to work for Canon USA in the mid to late ‘80s for the Chicago region, but after a few years, he again desired to work as a full time professional photographer. Moving back to his hometown of New Orleans, Jerry worked as Tulane University’s staff photographer for almost fifteen years, all the while freelancing for such clients as Sports Illustrated, Marriott, Hilton, Getty, USA Today and virtually every major newspaper in America. A true generalist photographer, Jerry’s photography skills lie mostly in commercial, advertising and photojournalism, although he does find time to shoot a few weddings and portraits each year to keep up with our ever-changing industry. Over the past decade or so, Jerry has spent much of his time working as a food photographer with all of the great restaurants of New Orleans, a few national chains and some great food magazines. Today, his specialties include the odd combination of food and sports photography, but he still considers himself a generalist due to his wide skill base.
After the post Hurricane Katrina flooding decimated New Orleans, Jerry went back to work for Canon U.S.A., and now lives in the Dallas area. His territory covers Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas as a Pro Market Specialist… where in addition to working, teaching, training, and speaking in his territory, he has been fortunate to cover the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Super Bowl, and a Space Shuttle launch.
